Lina Gjorcheska is a prominent tennis player from Macedonia, recognized as the most accomplished player in her country to date. She achieved her highest WTA rankings of 170 in singles and 116 in doubles on June 12, 2017. Throughout her career, she has secured 13 singles titles and 47 doubles titles on the ITF Women’s Circuit. Representing Macedonia in the Billie Jean King Cup, she holds an impressive win-loss record of 27–5 as of May 2024.
Born on August 3, 1994, in Tetovo, Macedonia, Lina Gjorcheska started in tennis at early age. She showed great talent and skills that highlighted her bright future in the sport. She was the runner-up at the J200 La Paz \ Condor de Plata Tournament in 2011.
Lina Gjorcheska made her professional debut in 2011, playing at the $10,000 Nyiregyhaza (Hungary), where reached the second round. later same season she played the quarter-finals of the $15,000 Nis (Serbia).
In 2012, Lina Gjorcheska won her first ITF singles title at the $25,000 W25 Arad (Romania). She also was the runner-up at the $10,000 Pirot (Serbia) and reached the semi-finals of the $15,000 Nis (Serbia) and the quarter-finals of the $10,000 Brcko (Bosnia and Herzegovina). In doubles, she won the titles at the $10,000 Arad (Romania), $10,000 Prokuplje (Serbia), and $10,000 Antalya (Turkey).
Lina Gjorcheska continue gaining experience at the ITF Circuit in 2013. She played at the final of the $25,000 W25 Arad (Romania) and $10,000 Ruse (Bulgaria) as well as the semi-finals of the $10,000 Antalya (Turkey), $10,000 W15 Vrnjacka Banja (Serbia) and $15,000 Nis (Serbia). In doubles, she won the titles at $10,000 Marathon (Greece), $10,000 Prokuplje (Serbia), $10,000 Brcko (Bosnia and Herzegovia), $10,000 Belgrade (Serbia), $10,000 Vrnjacka Banja (Serbia), and $10,000 Antalya (Turkey). She was named the best young athlete of Macedonia by the Sports Union of Macedonia and the Agency for Youth and Sports.
In 2014, Lina Gjorcheska won her second ITF title at the $10,000 Varna (Bulgaria) tournament. Meanwhile, during the season she was the runner-up at the $10,000 Sousse (Tunisia), $10,000 W15 Prokuplje (Serbia), and $10,000 Antalya (Turkey). She improved her results and entered in world’s Top 500, ending the season as No 400. In doubles, she won the tiles at the $10,000 Prokuplje (Serbia), $10,000 Palic Open (Serbia), $10,000 Timisoara (Romania), and $25,000 Sofia (Bulgaria).
In 2015, Lina Gjorcheska lost the finals at the $15,000 W15 Sharm El Sheikh (Egypt) and $15,000 Bol (Croatia), before winning her third ITF singles title at the $10,000 Tarsus (Turkey). By the end of the season she won two more titles at the $15,000 W15 Vrnjacka Banja (Serbia) and $10,000 Antalya (Turkey). In doubles, she won the titles at the $10,000 Sharm El Sheikh (Egypt), $10,000 Bol (Croatia), $10,000 Galati (Romania), $10,000 Tarsus (Turkey), $10,000 Prokuplje (Serbia), $10,000 Vrnjacka Banja (Serbia), $25,000 Royal Cup (Montenegro), and $10,000 Antalya (Turkey).
Lina Gjorcheska made Grand Slam debut at the 2016 US Open, where she was eliminated in the first round of qualifying by Catherine Bellis. During the season she won the titles at the $10,000 Antalya (Turkey), $10,000 Manisa (Turkey), $25,000 W35 Stuttgart-Vaihingen (Germany), but also played in the final of the prestigious $25,000 W35 Torino (Italy). Lina Gjorcheska made her main draw WTA Challenger debut at the WTA 125 Open BLS De Limoges, losing in the first round. In doubles, she won the titles at the $50,000 Szeged Open (Hungary), $25,000 Stuttgart (Germany), $25,000 Turin (Italy), $25,000 Dobrich (Bulgaria), $50,000 Open de Saint-Malo (France), and $25,000 Open de Valencia (Spain). At the end of the year, she was named the best athlete of Macedonia by the Agency for Youth and Sports.
In her inaugural appearance at the Australian Open in 2017, Lina Gjorcheska triumphed over Sachia Vickery in the first round of qualifying. She continued her success by defeating Dalma Gálfi in straight sets in the second round, but ultimately fell to Stefanie Vogele in a three-set match. Additionally, she made her first appearance in the WTA Tour main draw at the WTA 250 Ladies Open Biel Bienne, where she was defeated in the first round by Marketa Vondrousova. Meanwhile, Lina Gjorcheska won the title at the $25,000 W25 Denain (France) and was the runner-up at the $60,000 Tunis (Tunisia), as well as reached the second round of the WTA 125 Croatia Bol Open. Thus, she climbed to world’s Top 200 for a while, but ended the season at world’s No 277. In doubles, she played her first WTA 125 final at the Croatia Bol Open, partnering with Aleksandrina Naydenova (Bulgaria), but lost to Chuang Chia-jung and Renata Voracova in straight sets.
In 2018, Lina Gjorcheska did not performed at high level with her biggest achievement reaching the semi-finals at the $25,000 W25 Obidos (Portugal) and $35,000 W35 Istanbul (Turkey).
Lina Gjorcheska returned to wins in 2019, triumphing with the title at the $15,000 W15 Antalya (Turkey) and reaching the semi-finals at the $25,000 W25 Minsk (Belarus) and $25,000 W25 Kaposvar (Hungary). In doubles, she won the titles at the $25,000 Bredeney Ladies Open (Germany), $25,000 Minsk (Belarus), $25,000 Getxo (Spain), and $60,000 Ladies Open Hechingen (Germany).
Lina Gjorcheska started the 2020 season by reaching the final of the $25,000 W25 Trnava (Slovakia), but her biggest achievement on singles was playing in the main draw of the WTA 125 Prague Open and reaching the quarter-finals of the $15,000 W15 Antalya (Turkey).
In 2021, Lina Gjorcheska reached the semi-finals of the $25,000 W25 Liepaja (Latvia), $80,000 W80 Wiesbaden (Germany), and $35,000 W35 Seville (Spain), as well as the quarte-finals of the $60,000 W60 Bellinzona (Switzerland), $25,000 W35 Vrnjacka Banja (Serbia), $25,000 W25 Budapest (Hungary), and $35,000 W35 Trieste (Italy).
Lina Gjorcheska won one more ITF singles title in 2022, triumphing at the $35,000 W35 Heraklion (Greece). She also was the runner-up at the $60,000 W75 Olomouc (Czech Republic) and $35,000 W35 Santa Margherita Di Pula (Italy).
In 2023, Lina Gjorcheska won the title at the $40,000 W50 Kursumlijska Banja (Serbia), but also played in the finals of the $40,000 W40 Tallinn (Estonia) and $25,000 W25 Osijek (Croatia).
In 2024, alongside partner Jil Teichmann, she reached the finals in doubles at the WTA 125 Zavarovalnica Sava Ljubljana, where they finished as runners-up after losing to Nuria Brancaccio and Leyre Romero Gormaz. In singles, she was the runner-up at the $60,000 W75 Rome (Italy) and $25,000 W35 Alaminos-Larnaca (Cyprus), as well as reached the semi-finals at the $75,000 W75 Kursumlijska Banja (Serbia) and $100,000 W100 Figueira Da Foz (Portugal).
In 2025, Lina Gjorcheska reached the semi-finals of the $60,000 W75 Maribor (Slovenia).
