Ana Sofia Sanchez is a Mexican tennis player. She reached her best singles ranking of world No 248 in June 2021, while in doubles peaked to No 221 in the WTA rankings in August 2016. Ana Sofia Sanchez has won 14 singles and 12 doubles titles on the ITF Women’s Circuit. In 2012, she made her debut for the Mexico Fed Cup team.
Ana Sofia Sanchez Palau was born on April 13, 1994, in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. She started in tennis as a kid and showed her great talent and skills. As a junior she won the title at the 2009 J4 Monterrey Monterrey Contry ITF Junior Cup and was the runner-up at the 2010 J60 Kingston ITF Jamaica Junior International Championships.
Ana Sofia Sanchez made her singles professional debut in 2011, playing at the $10,000 Buenos Aires (Argentina), losing in the first round. Just a few months later she reached the quarter-finals of the $10,000 Rosario (Argentina) and won her first ITF title at the $10,000 Zacatecas (Mexico).
In 2012, Ana Sofia Sanchez won two more ITF titles at the $10,000 Chosica-Lima (Peru) and $10,000 Rosario (Argentina). In the next season, she triumphed at the $10,000 Lima (Peru) and $10,000 Quintana Roo (Mexico), but also made her debut at the WTA Tour, playing in the main draw of the WTA 250 Abierto GNP Seguros.
In 2014 and 2015, Ana Sofia Sanchez continue playing mostly in the ITF Circuit to gain experience. She won the titles at the $10,000 Sousse (Tunisia) and $10,000 Quintana Roo (Mexico), but also reached the quarter-finals at the $50,000 Monterrey (Mexico).
In 2016, in doubles Ana Sofia Sanchez reached the semifinal in Florianopolis, Brazil with partner Montserrat González. The pair lost to third-seeded Timea Babos and Reka Luca Jani, in straight sets. In singles, however, she did not made some significant achievement.
She won two more titles in singles in 2017 at the $15,000 Schoonhoven (Netherlands) and $15,000 Brussels (Belgium), but in 2018 reached the second round at the 2018 Monterrey Open, her best result thus far, defeating Usue Maitane Arconada in the first round, before losing to Sachia Vickery. She became the first Mexican player ever to win at Monterrey, having lost her previous six WTA Tour level main draw matches.
During the next seasons, Ana Sofia Sanchez did not won any title in both ITF Circuit and WTA Tour, but in 2021 she triumphed at the $25,000 W35 Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic), which was her biggest achievement so far.
In 2023, she qualified into the main draw of her home tournament, the WTA 1000 Guadalajara Open, where she lost to Dayana Yastremska. Ana Sofia Sanchez also received wildcards in singles and doubles for the next edition of the tournament, which was downgraded to a WTA 500 in 2024, but also lost in the first rounds. However, she won again the title at the $25,000 W35 Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic).
