Valeria Savinykh

Valeria Savinykh is a Russian tennis player, who achieved a career-high singles ranking of world No 99 in 2012. She has won nine singles and 23 doubles titles on the ITF Circuit, along with one doubles title on WTA Challenger Tour.

Valeria Savinykh was born on February 20, 1991, in Sverdlovsk, RSFSR, Soviet Union (now Yekaterinburg, Russia). She was introduced to tennis at age five and trained at the SotoTennis Academy in Spain. During her junior career, she won titles at the 2009 Slovak Junior Indoor Tournament and the 2009 Czech International Junior Indoor Championships.

Valeria Savinykh made her professional debut in 2008 at the $10,000 W15 Prokuplje (Serbia), where reached the second round. The same month she played ay the $10,000 Rabat (Morocco), reaching her first final, but lost to Lisa Sabino (Switzerland) in two sets. By the end of the season, she played another ITF final at the $10,000 Limoges (France), as well as two semi-finals at the $10,000 Clermont Ferrand (France) and $25,000 W25 Lagos (Nigeria).

In 2009, Valeria Savinykh played in both junior and ITF Circuit. Despite winning two prestigious junior titles, she played at the semi-finals of the $25,000 W25 Madrid (Spain), $25,000 Granada (Spain), and $25,000 W25 Istanbul (Turkey), as well as the quarter-finals of the $25,000 W25 Moscow (Russia), $25,000 Alphen (Netherlands), and $75,000 Dubai (UAE).

Valeria Savinykh played two more ITF finals in 2010 but again missed the title. She was the runner-up at the prestigious $25,000 W25 Ystad (Sweden) and $50,000 W60 Nantes (France), but also played at the quarter-finals of the $25,000 Bratislava (Slovakia) and $25,000 W25 Glasgow (UK), and $25,000 Kristinehamn (Sweden).

Valeria Savinykh won her first ITF title in 2011 at the prestigious $100,000 Johannesburg (South Africa). During the season she also debuted in the WTA Tour main draw at the WTA 250 Baku Cup and on the next week reached the quarter-finals at the WTA 250 Tashkent Open. She also was the runner-up of the $60,000 Ankara (Turkey) and reached the semi-finals of the $50,000 W60 Saint-Gaudens (France) and $25,000 Hammond, LA (USA).

In 2012, Valeria Savinykh debuted in the Grand Slam’s main draw, playing at the Australian Open, but lost in the first round to Sara Errani (Italy). During the season she reached the second round of the WTA 250 Copa Colsanitas presented by Zurich and WTA 250 Abierto GNP Seguros, but the Master’s tournament WTA 1000 Miami Open. At the ITF Circuit, she played in the semi-finals of the $50,000 W60 Saint-Gaudens (France) and $50,000 Trnava (Slovakia).

Valeria Savinykh made a superb start to the 2013 season, reaching the third round of the Australian Open. She also played at the WTA 250 Brasil Tennis and WTA 250 bierto GNP Seguros, but suffered an injury and missed half of the season. She returned only in September, but without a win by the end of the year.

In 2014, Valeria Savinykh returned to play entirely in the ITF Circuit and was the runner-up at the $25,000 Tunis ()Tunisia), but also played at the semi-finals of the $25,000 Sunderland (UK) and quarter-finals of the $10,000 Tinajo (Spain), $25,000 Batumi (Georgia) and $25,000 Monterrey (Mexico).

Valeria Savinykh continue suffering from an injury in 2015, missing most of the season. She played several tournaments in April-May with her biggest achievement is reaching the semi-finals of the $25,000 Karshi (Uzbekistan).

In 2016, Valeria Savinykh played two more ITF finals at the $10,000 Puszczykowo (Poland) and $10,000 Astana (Kazakhstan), before winning her second ITF title at the $10,000 W15 Heraklion (Greece).

Valeria Savinykh continue competing in the ITF Circuit in 2017, winning the trophies at the $15,000 W15 Montemor-O-Novo (Portugal) and $60,000 Artvin (Turkey), as well as being the runner-up at the $15,000 Santarem (Portugal).

In 2018, she won her 5th title at the $25,000 W25 Pune (India) and was the runner-up at the $25,000 Shrewsbury (UK). Valeria Savinykh also played in the semi-finals of the $25,000 Wirral (UK), $25,000 Oslo (Norway), and quarter-finals of the $25,000 W25 Obidos (Portugal). She again played at the main scheme of the WTA tournament at the WTA 250 Rothesay Open Nottingham but lost in the first round.

In 2019, Valeria Savinykh won two more ITF titles at the $25,000 W25 Namangan (Uzbekistan) and $25,000 W25 Taipei (Taiwan). She was also the runner-up at the $25,000 W25 Singapore (Singapore).

The season 2020 was shortened by the coronavirus pandemic and she missed most of the tournaments, while at the others because of a drop in her form, hardly passed the first round.

In 2021, Valeria Savinykh won the title at the $25,000 W25+H Calvi (France) and was the runner-up at the $60,000 W60 Nur-Sultan (Kazakhstan). She also played in the semi-finals of the $25,000 W25 Salinas (Ecuador) and $25,000 W25 Kazan (Russia).

In 2022, she won her 9th ITF title at the $25,000 W25 Navi Mumbai (India). She also was the runner-up at the $25,000 W25 Raanana (Israel)

Valeria Savinykh started the 2023 season strongly, playing at the WTA 250 GSB Thailand Open, but lost in the first round. She also played another ITF final at the $40,000 W40 Nonthaburi (Thailand) and $25,000 W25 Kachreti (Georgia), as well as semi-finals at the $40,000 W40 Bhopal (India) and $40,000 W40 Pune (India).
